We are back with our shuffle.  First of all I’m running behind on the Band of the Month poll, but I expect to have that up and running either today and tomorrow.

We have a fun little shuffle – so let’s have fun!

Yucca Rose is a jazz vocalist from Jakarta, Indonesia. Today we have the beautiful Sentimental Mood which we grabbed from her ReverbNation Page.

Yucca Rose is also an artist and here is a video featuring some of her art.

Featured Artist – Vulture Kult are up next with the title track from their album, Don’t Let Rock N’ Roll Ruin Your Life.
Here is a live performance from Vulture Kult

Nashville’s own,Bill Lloyd has a diverse and storied history.  He heads up the popular band The Long Players who recreate classic albums with a rotating all-star cast of characters which occasionally includes musicians who played on the original album.  He was 1/2 of the popular Country music duo Foster and Lloyd and he has recorded and released a series of totally awesome solo records over the past 25 + years.  His latest album is called Boy King of Tokyo, and we have the title track from that album in the shuffle today.

New Jersey band The Everymen are from New Jersey and they just released a stunning 52 song compilation which is available from Bandcamp with all proceeds going to Hurricane Sandy Relief.

Here’s the details on  that record.

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle – Honest to Goodness Mix

!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”); <!– google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5465441380757075"; /* E2TG #2 */ google_ad_slot = "6306625404"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; //

Well, well, well… it’s finally here.  I hope you vote if you are able. I hope you take the time to read about the candidates and issues – read a variety of sources.  If you do that and you reach a different conclusion than I do, then I’m okay with that.

Remember if you don’t vote you can’t complain… actually, I’ve always hated that expression… The truth is if you don’t vote, you can complain, but then you should feel guilty about it.

Whatever, we have some music to lighten your load…

Recent Featured Artists and our good friends, The Grimm Generation are back with there follow-up to The Last Record PartyComing Home shows a band just beginning to hit their stride, and it’s a damn fine stride, too.  Check out today’s song, Come to Me.

Don’t have a video for Come to Me, but here’s the lead-off song from the new record. It’s called Blink I’m Gone.

Next up, we have an encore presentation of the rockin’ Avenue H from Vulture Kult from their release, Don’t Let Rock n’ Roll Ruin Your Life.

Here’s another song from the new record.
Diana Lawrence is one of our Featured Artists for November/December.  She earned that distinction with her beautiful melodies, tremendous pop/folk sense and her inspiring lyrics. We have another track from her fine To: Aging Children EP which was released back in August.

Here’s Diana from July playing with the equally awesome Phoebe Hunt.

The Lords of the New Church formed in 1982 by former Dead Boy – Stiv Bators who died in 1990, Brian James of The Damned, Dave Tregunna of Sham 69 and Nick Turner of The Barracudas.  Today we have a song taken from a compilation put out by Easy Action records called The Fabulous Rachel Moss Album.  This is a previously unreleased track called Gun Called Justice V.2.

Here’s the band from a 1988 show doing Gun Called Justice

The Barack Obama Super Obama Hoodie is black with a colorful image of President Obama ripping open his white shirt and red tie to reveal a superhero costume underneath. The blue costume is emblazoned with a giant red “O” for “Obama” on a white background. Declare your political allegiance today with this humorous (or is it serious?) Obama hoodie, a warm and comfortable pullover-style hooded sweatshirt.

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle – Scratched Mix

!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”); <!– google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5465441380757075"; /* E2TG #2 */ google_ad_slot = "6306625404"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; //

We have arrived at mid-week, and we have a lot of music to present, so let’s get right to it.

Pigeon Park are one of our featured artists for October and are in the running to be our Band of the Month.  It’s Not That Likely, from the band’s self-titled album, finds the find in a decidedly peppy mood with a nifty break-down complete with… is that a Jew’s harp??

Here’s some footage from the band’s 2011 tour

Calicocat were a Band of the Week here at Ear2theGround back in March. Now, they have opened up their vaults for a second time with the recent release of The Vault, Vol. 2: Electric Psychedelic Calicocat Swingers Club.  The collection includes a number of very cool cover versions of classic songs, including the song in our shuffle today: the band’s rootsy cover of King of Bluegrass, Jimmy Martin’s song, Tennessee.

As you may know, we use the shuffle feature to help select our daily playlist – hence the Morning Shuffle designation. All that to say that through the quirks of the shuffle process, Canadian band Vulture Kult had two songs in yesterday’s shuffle and they are back with another song today.  Not that I’m complaining.  Avenue H. from Don’t Let Rock N’ Roll Ruin Your Life has a snottier attitude than some of the band’s other stuff, I dig it.

Doug Spears is billed as Florida’s Native Troubadour. It’s a apt description for this singer-songwriter who released his first album in 2005.  When the Hummingbirds Return is an unreleased song – it is a great song, and one which has a timeless yet fresh quality to it. Spears employees soft-spoken, evocative vocals and crisp, clean guitar work.  A lovely song which add nicely to the southern folk cannon.

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle – Horses and Bayonets Mix

!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”); <!– google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5465441380757075"; /* E2TG #2 */ google_ad_slot = "6306625404"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; //

Here in Tennessee, we are in the midst of Indian Summer.  Highs in the 80s.  It won’t last, but I like it.  Let’s get to our shuffle:

Christopher Paul Stelling is part of an emerging Brooklyn Music scene.  We’ve met The End Men, The Gypsy West and The Disappointment among others.  To me, it’s an exciting scene. Exciting for the diversity and openness of the players. On his debut album, Songs of Praise and Scorn, Stelling delivers a gorgeous set of songs which emerge out of the old South, travel the twisted highways of life and settle comfortably into the urban Northwest. Solar Flares is simply a beautiful, haunting song. Clean, shiver-inducing guitar licks combine with his emotionally powerful vocals. As I walked through the early morning chill, I felt like I could have staying the moment forever.

“still waiting on the sun to go and tear on through them clouds: it’ll shine right down when the time allows.”

Vulture Kult play unapologetic, uncompromising Hard ROCK music. Mixing the pure ROCK power of Zeppelin and Black Sabbath with the break-neck paced raw energy of the best of classic and neo-classic punk rock, Vulture Kult lays it all out everytime, and that makes them a joy to listen to. The Band recently dropped their 2nd album called Don’t Let Rock N’ Roll Ruin Your Life, and today, we have a double shot from the duo from Saskatoon.  First up, we have the title track from the album and then we have a sonic attack called Cynanide Hand Grenade.  These songs pumped me up and gave me the energy I needed to move forward into my day.

Sprout the Band are a California Bluesy, Funky Jammy type band who are according to their Facebook page on indefinite hiatus. We came across a track called Running Wild which can be found on their Live in the Barn set which was released via Bandcamp a year ago.

Thursday Morning Music Shuffle – Party Dress Mix

!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”); <!– google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5465441380757075"; /* E2TG #2 */ google_ad_slot = "6306625404"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; //
Great to hear Allison – first thing this morning on the radio – thanks Mary Brace and Lightning 100 for that. Here we go…

Vulture Kult have recently released their second album which is called, Don’t Let Rock n’ Roll Ruin Your Life. Vultures from Above is a real treat, a neo-classical sounding hard rock track with strong vocals and real, live screaming guitars.  Vulture Kult, as I mentioned the last time I wrote about them, have a Psychedelic groove to their music that I like a whole lot.

Stream the album here, purchase it here.

Buddy Miller is a significant force in the Americana movement.  A singer, songwriter, producer and collaborator.  Here we have a track from his 1995 HighTone Records debut, Love and Other Lies.  That’s How I Got to Memphis is a cover of a song Tom T. Hall wrote for Bobby Bare, Sr.

Earlier this year, Rodney Crowell put out an album called KIN: Songs by Mary Karr and Rodney Crowell. Mary Karr is a poet, essayist and memoirist. Karr wrote the lyrics for the songs on the album and Crowell put the lyrics to music.  An All-Star that includes Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Vince Gill and Lucinda Williams, performs the songs.  I’m a Mess is done by Crowell himself.
Seattle-based Hip-Hop duo, THEESatisfaction have put out an EP length mixtape called THEESatisfaction Loves Anita Baker.  Today, we have the track, Black Fact.  Check it out:
Here’s another THEESatisfaction track
Here’s Anita Baker herself….

Thursday Morning Music Shuffle – Downtown Mix

!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”); <!– google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5465441380757075"; /* E2TG #2 */ google_ad_slot = "6306625404"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; //
Wow! There is beauty in sadness and rising life in the midst of decline.  It’s a great big amazing world if you can see past all the b.s. clouding your vision.  Life is hard but it’s only life, and everything is temporary, everyone is temporary.

Exciting things happening here at Ear to the Ground, which I will be bringing to you soon.  In the meantime, we have an excellent shuffle to start off this possibility filled day….

Bob Dylan is 71 years old and he’s just released his 35th studio album, Tempest, his first since his 2009 Christmas in the Heart album, and it may be the best album he’s made in a number of years. Tempest debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 Chart. Today, we have Long and Wasted Years.

Next we have some new music from one of our current Featured Artists and Band on the Month nominees. Florida trio Grounded have just released some new music in the form of a released called Sinlong Plethora.  Josh, of fellow Featured Artist – And the Giraffe mastered this collection.  Today we present, Fermentation a whisper to a scream type punk/metal ballad.  I don’t know if that description does the track justice, but it’s a good song.

Get Sinlong Plethora – Here

Next we have music from a Canadian duo called Vulture Kult. They’ve just released their second album called Don’t Let Rock N’ Roll Ruin Your Life and we have the lead off song from that album, Electric Medication a psychedelic sonic assault with some classic rock riffs – the band’s tag line is Rock rebooted for the 21st Century.  A bold statement, but the band seems to back it up.  It reminds me a little bit of the best of The Cult without some of the hippy excesses of that band (I loved The Cult – so don’t send hate mail).  I believe Vulture Kult draws from the same musical stream as Ian Astbury’s old band did and does their own thing with it.

And finally, we have some long awaited NEW MUSIC from Tom Tom Club. Chris and Tina and company are back with their ode to the music that made New York City great.  Downtown Rockers from the EP of the same name-drops all of those great NYC bands from old CBGB days.
