Friday Morning Music Shuffle – Alternate Reality Mix

Shuffle after the jump:

1.  Song: Gonna Be Alright  Artist: L.A. Symphony  Album: The End is Now (2003) – (Not the Los Angeles Symphonic Orchestra, but a hip-hop band. Nashville hip-hop producers rapper extraordinaire, Hayden Coleman, who is my go to guy for anything hip-hop related was telling me about this group who had recently reunited.  Right after that, I went to Goodwill and was digging through the CD bin and came across this album.  Seemed like fate or at least coincidence.  I dig it)

2. Song: Love Letters Artist: Lincoln Durham Album: The Shovel vs. The Howling Bones (2011) – (Austin-based Roots/Americana/Rock/Folk/Bluesy Stuff – whatever you call it, I’m digging this one)

3.  Song: Trainwreck  Artist: The Bluefields  Album: Pure (2012) – (Even if The Bluefields was not made up of members of legendary bands like Georgia Satellites, Jason and the Scorchers and Royal Court of China, this would still be a hell of a record.  Oh and Joe Blanton has one of the best voices in Rock.)

 Warner looks like he’s about kick my ass. Fortunately, I was standing next to his mother at the time.

 4. Song: Sentimental Mood  Artist: Yucca Rose Album: ? ReverbNation Download (2012?) – (Beautiful jazz-based music from the insanely talented Yukke Roswenda Rose aka Yucca Rose from Jakarta, Indonesia).

5. Song: I Don’t Like You  Artist: The Como Brothers Band Album: The Speed of Sound EP (2012) – (Some nifty Blues-based Pop Rock from this Long Island band. We nabbed this from an Aquarium Weekly sampler)


6. Song:Cigarettes and Wine Artist: Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit Album: Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit (2009) – (I know I keep harping on this, but I freaking love Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit!  This is a great song.  Genres are stupid, but this is a better Country song than 90% of what is played on “Country” radio.  Also, bassist Jimbo Hart almost always retweets when I tweet about the 400 Unit. Also, Jason rocks a Kenny Rogers tour jacket better than anyone I know.)
7.  Song: Disco Ghetto  Artist: Jesse Malin and the St. Marks Social Album: Love it To Life (2010) – (Great Rock artist from New York – former member of D Generation. Disco Ghetto is just a stone cold cool song)


8. Song: After the Storm  Artist: Mumford and Sons Album: Sigh No More (2010) – (I still really like this band. Another awesome song from this smash hit album)

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle – 47 Percent Elegance Mix

Man you guys, I think I need an intern or something.  I mean if Kramer could have an intern, I could – right?  So much goodness going on – Our good friends, The Dead Exs dropped their sophomore album, Relovolution, while we were AMAing, and we are going to have a lot to say about this one.  Cosmonauts are just a week away from unveiling the video to the song they recently debuted and which we had in the shuffle yesterday, Cold Harbor. The Disappointment have a new video, we just heard a killer new song from Dogs of Oz. There is new music out or coming soon from The Avett Brothers, Mumford and Sons, Band of Horses, John Hiatt and just about everybody else.  We made some good contacts at the Americana to-do, and some big things are coming for little ole us.  So of course, by nbl (non-blogging life) is also exploding and time become a precious commodity, but it’s all good.

Our shuffle today features two artists we saw live last week plus a song from the early 2000s and a relatively new song that sounds like an old song…  Let’s jump into the shuffle:

First up we have Leeds’ own, The Dunwells, who we saw last Thursday at Live on the Green with I Could Be A King off of their debut record, Blind Sighted Faith.

 
 

Up next, we have a retro-sounding fuzzy guitar-driven, Garage Rock song called Driven by Love from the band 45 Spider which comes from Supercharged Sounds (the 8th Volume of the Best of GaragePunk Hideout) which came out in July. 

Next, we have the debut single by California ska-punk band OPM from way back around the turn of the century. Heaven is  Halfpipe promises skating after death. The debut album was called Menace to Sobriety (see what they did there?)





And finally, we have another song from the fantastic Marvin Country! album by Marvin Etzioni who at The Station Inn in Nashville along with his Marvin Country! String Quartet. I had the chance to talk briefly with Mr. Etzioni, and hope to have the opportunity to have a longer chat with him soon.







Friday Morning Music Shuffle – Wrong Antidote Mix

Anticipation is building – look for the big unveiling of the Band of the Year around noon CST.

Meanwhile, it’s a cold and wet December day, and I’m jumping right into my Winter/Holiday Playlist. I actually took a bunch of songs off from last year because I had anticipated migrating to a new MP3 player with great capacity by this time, but now it appears that isn’t going to happen any time soon.  In the meantime, we have a great playlist with more songs waiting to be added.

1.  Nashville Rock icons Jason & the Scorchers tear it up on the Christmas classic, Oh Holy Night.  The song can be found on the 2005 benefit album To: Kate – A Benefit for Kate’s Sake.

The ‘Very Special Christmas’ albums began appearing in the late 1980s. A series of yuletide-themed compilations that featured contemporary rock stars performing beloved Christmas songs (some secular, some not) the albums were recorded and issued to raise money for the Special Olympics. Volume One emerged in 1989, and by the holiday season of 2001-2, four sequels had been produced and issued. Now, the home video release A Very Special Christmas compiles some of the most memorable music videos and live performances of songs from those initial albums, with additional renditions of holiday tunes culled from the 1998 and 2000 Christmas at the White House specials.
