Monday Morning Music Shuffle – Waters Part Mix

First off, sending love to the family and friends of Faye Hunter original bassist with Let’s Active on her recent passing. Several Facebook friends knew and worked with her and are hurting.   If you are not familiar with Let’s Active – get caught up.

Mouth by JWM 7/21/2013
Friday – we listened to our usual morning mix, even created a YouTube playlist and then the day got crazy and we never wrote a post. So, I’ve made an executive decision (as this blog is one of the few places I am allowed to make executive decisions.  All the songs from Friday are back in the mix (some even showed up today).

Consider this the lost E2TG Playlist
Today’s mix is after the jump

Not a lot of time – so we will jump into the mix.

Live in a blue house, on a blue street,
in a blue town by a blue creek.
I write my blue songs with my blue pen.
I sing the blue notes to my blue friends.
Now I don’t know that much about you,
but I like you because you’re true blue.”

“Howling At the Moon (Sha-La-La)” by Ramones from Too Tough to Die (1984)

Give to the poor”

“Her Changes” by Frank Ryan
“Shooting the Moon” by Ben Shive
“Fox in the Hen House” by The Quaker City Night Hawks

 SHUFFLE UP NEXT

“My Sympathy” by Human Face from The Waiting Game (Part One) (2012/2013)

Human Face were kind enough to Tweet some nice words about us the other day. It was most appreciated, but what got them back in the Shuffle was (well besides the random shuffle mode) their amazingly catchy tunes and light, fun spirit.  Check them out if you haven’t.  Go!

“Strawberry Hill” by Bronze Radio Return from Old Time Speaker (2009)

Bronze Radio Return are an Indie Roots band from Hartford, Connecticut.  We grabbed this track and others from their new Noisetrade Sampler. This one comes from their debut album Old Time Speaker. Great song.

“Green” by Canopy Climbers from Miles (2013)

Our shuffle of really strong pop-oriented songs continues with another song from the brand new Canopy Climbers album Miles.  I am thoroughly enjoying this album.

“Screws Get Loose (Extended Studio Version) by Those Darlins Single (2011) (Original version from Screws Get Loose (2011)

We close out today’s Shuffle with one of my favorites.  An extended version of the title track from the most recent Those Darlins album (a new album from the Nashville band is due in the Fall). I dare you to listen and not sing along.  I double dog dare you.

Monday Morning Music Shuffle – Beat the Drum Mix

I had the opportunity to add tons of songs to the active playlist from whence we draw the daily mixes which we present to you, loyal reader. As always, I try to get a good healthy mix of new stuff, rare old stuff, classic old stuff and random oldish/newish stuff or whatever strikes my fancy.  This morning’s Pre-Shuffle and Shuffle Shuffle strikes a not-so-delicate balance between genres and eras.  Give the people what they want… I don’t know if I did that.  Give the people what I want? Probably closer to the truth (with the capriciousness of the random shuffle function).

Pre-Shuffle – which covers my morning drive…

“Until the Led” by Vic Chesnutt (backed by the Nashville band Lambchop)
“Pinhead” by Ramones
“Lulay” by The Choir at Your Door
“Indian Giver” by Ramones (covering 1910 Fruitgum Company)
“Marrow” by Joshua Worden
“Ain’t My Year” by Todd Farrell Jr. and the Dirty Birds
“Last Thing I Needed First Thing in the Morning” by Willie Nelson
“The Fall” by Ben Shive

We’re back.  It’s been almost a week since the last shuffle.  Since that post, we saw an awesome if all too brief set from Black Jake and the Carnies and we scanned in some old Spin magazine clippings from the mid-80s. One post about the Minutemen has received over 120 “likes” since Saturday afternoon.

But, we are rested and rejuvenated and ready to bring you the constant variety of music.

PRE-SHUFFLE:

Вийди, Вийди, Іванку (Vyjdy, Vyjdy, Ivanku)” by Katarina Ljahovic, Mike Romaniak, Patrick Power, Stephen Kreuger from Нема ні Шнурочка (Nema Ni Shnurochka) (2012)  – More great Ukrainian folk music featuring Patrick Power of Valued Customer and my Instagram friend Stephen Kreuger.

“Lady Luck Death Dance” by Coastwest Unrest from Old Weird America (2010) – there is a real Velvet Undergroundish feel to this song.  Love it.

“Nobody” by Cecile McLorin Salvant from WomanChild (2013)

“Nowhere” by Tipi Valley from Rock ‘n’ Roll Live On (2013)  – Nobody, Nowhere, Noway, Nohow! 😉

  • “Hold You in My Arms” by Great Divide from Great Divide (2013)
I think I’ve mentioned it, but it bears (get it – the album cover) repeating, I love this record. What a laid back chill way to start a Monday morning.

  • “The Lonesome Tale of Bacchus Lee (My Friend) by Coastwest Unrest from Old Weird America (2010)

Another great track from this Las Vegas band. We grabbed both songs in today’s mix on a Noisetrade compilation.

Ready Set Go… well, I’m going to be out and about the rest of this week.  I MAY sneak in an entry or two.  In the mean time, I will leave you with another fine, fine mix of music…

PRE-SHUFFLE:

1. “Chili” by Dog Without Warning (Did I mention the latest Dog Without Warning record is bad ass? Well, it is.  My shuffle mode has been digging this song and so have I.)
2.”Oh Darlin'” by Mystery Twins (Happy to present another song from this Nashville-based musical side project. – two members of The Clutters)
3. “Infatuation” by Dog Without Warning (Did I mention that the latest Dog Without Warning record is really, really bad ass?  Well, it really really is! This song is one of my favorites from the ‘Bark’ EP.  Oh who am I kidding, all of the songs on ‘Bark’ are my favorites.)
 4. “The Escape” by SkyBurnsRed (more music from this hot UK band).
 5. “Sorry, But I’m Yours” by Ben Shive (Another awesome track from this unique Nashville Singer/Songwriter)
6. & 7. “Is There Anybody Out There?” and “Nothing Stays the Same” by Human Face (Really digging the Brit-Pop feel of this band)
8. “What’s So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding” by Steve Earle (covering Elvis Costello (doing a Nick Lowe tune)) (A live and loud version of the Nick Lowe classic. Trivia, Earle’s son Justin Townes is in the band for this song)
9. “Bring Me Backwards” by Ellis Paul (Man oh Man, I dig this song.  Came to me via the latest Feel Bad for You mixtape)

and then we transition into the Shuffle with one of the strongest cuts on the excellent new EP by Tipi Valley

SHUFFLE AFTER THE JUMP!

  • “You Know” by Tipi Valley from Rock ‘n Roll Lives On (2013)

This song was Tipi Valley’s contribution to CXCW13. Tipi Valley is from Swansea, UK. I’ll have to remember to ask him if Swansea is as beautiful as it sounds….

  • “Piling It On” by Decades from Deep Deep Pink Sessions (2013)

‘Cause sometimes you need some good Hard Rock in your mix.

  • “Rebel Music” by Coastwest Unrest from Old Weird America (2010)

I’m really, really, really digging this Las Vegas band which I was introduced to via Noisetrade.  This song comes from the band’s 2010 album, Old Weird America.

  • “Easy Chair” by Great Divide from Great Divide (2013)

A great way to close out today’s Shuffle.  There is a lovely, comfortable feel to this band, and so far I think I like every single song I’ve heard.
