E2TG Goes Couchin’ Part I

Well, it’s mid-March, and I’m where any self-respecting music blogger would be at this time of year…. at home.  That’s right.  I’m not in the capital city of Texas – I’m in the capital city of Tennessee.  The first warm days of late winter – followed closely by the last few cold days of late winter means it’s that time… time to gather my snacks and dial up (or click over to) Couch by Couchwest.  “Where the beer is cheap and the only hipster is you.”  Seriously folks, if you are a music fan and you’ve never stuck your toes into the muddy water of the best damn on-line festival in  the whole world, then you have not idea what you are missing.  So, I’m a fixin’ to tell you.


Couch by Couchwest 2013 is about 1/3 of the way complete… whoa… only 1/3… and already they have presented way to much music for me to adequately summarize in a short space.  So here are some highlights…

Bands we Already Know

The Connecticut youngsters are up with a new song called Way Up High.

Our friends from Austin go all retro and cool with a version of their song Ain’t the Madonna…  the drummer plays his breakfast – very well, too.

Good to see our friend Ed Toft better known as Tipi Valley joining in the CXCW fun.  He’s up with a song from his forthcoming album called You Know.

Cupla from Vancouver are not only an amazingly talented band, but they are awesome human beings.  With their song, My Stand, they are at the forefront of the anti-bullying campaign – a cause near and dear to my heart.  They return to CXCW with a plugged in set of music.


Next up Bands we are just now getting to know… and there are still 4 more days of music!

The Holograms:
 …. are the result of a collaboration between Wade Walker and Galen Wade (who is a great supporter of this blog) who got together via Soundcloud.

 Traverse The Skies:
…front man, Jeremy Hatch likes long walks on the beach and animal videos on Youtube (per his Twitter account and people don’t lie on their Twitter profiles!).

Cupla:
…is Irish for twins, Bob and Bill McAloney formed the band, and they are twins.

Loners Society:
…front man, Matt Megrue was previously a member of a band called Usual Suspects. There are literally dozens of bands with Facebook accounts called Usual Suspects or The Usual Suspects.  The majority of these bands are not the band that Matt Megrue was a member of. Update: My bad, Matt was actually a member of the Unusual Suspects which explains why he wasn’t in any of the band’s I looked up…

The Imperial Rooster:

…lists as band members as:  Cootie LeRoux, Nat King Kong, Tennessee Skilly McGee, Khorn Syrup, Lulu Lotus Cornblossom, Dusty Vinyl.

Cosmonauts:
…have some new music coming out soon, recently had an “adventure” on the road and has some awesome artwork associated with their story/records.

Featured Friday Music Shuffle – Not to be an Imposition Mix

Greeting and salutations… it’s Friday and that means it’s time for our Featured Friday segment where we create a playlist with one song by each of our Featured Artists for the Month and hit the shuffle button.  Today due to song length, we have two songs in the shuffle, but rest assured each of our Featured Artist will have their moment on Featured Friday.

 First up with have Cosmonauts who are from Glen Falls, New York.  So far the band’s catalog tells the story of Emily Malone and Daniel Raincourt. Who met in their childhoods at an orphanage.   You can go here to get The Disfigurement of Emily Malone which was released in the March of 2011.  And here to get The Demise of Daniel Raincourt which was released on my birthday in January of this year. 

The song we offer up today is from The Demise of Daniel Raincourt.  The Heritage Day Parade is the second to the last song on the record. 





Next up, we have Cupla, a hard-rocking band from Vancouver, British Columbia. Cupla recently released a single and video (the video is featured on the Featured Artist Page) called My Stand which addresses the important issue of Bullying.  50% of the proceeds from the single go toward efforts to combat bullying.



Today, we have I’m Going which is the lead track off the band’s 2011 album, Letters Home.
