Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle – A Mix Among Mixes Mix

It’s mid-week.  Nashville is still digging out from our massive 1/2 snowfall yesterday morning (which by the way was mostly melted by noon yesterday)  (note for non-Nashville readers: Nashville really freaks out over winter weather).  Anyway, it was a frosty morning, and we have a great mix of songs to warm your hearts and minds and… I don’t really know what I’m saying at this point, but I’m trying to use words that sound like they belong in the introduction to a blog post. Whew!

It’s that time of year… everyone is releasing they best of 2013 lists.  Here at #E2TG, we will kick off our Best of 2013 posts Monday morning.  Of course, we will be doing it in a manner befitting Ear to the Ground… stay tuned.   By the way, for the first time since this blog began, we will not be having a Band of the Year Readers Poll.  More on the reasoning behind this later.  However, we will be unveiling our 3rd Annual Band of the Year in a special post later this month.  Tune in!

To today’s music…

EXTRA EXTRA:

“Hold On” by Sad Robot    “Too Weak to Ramble”  by Dr. Dog    “Badman”  by Cory Branan    “Prequel Lullaby” (Home Demo) by Black Doctor Jr.    “From This Valley” by The Civil Wars    “Bad Things” by Rayland Baxter    “Strangers” by Elephant Stone   “This Time” by Jenny Leigh   “I Fall in Love Every Summer” by Adam Hill   “Champagne Halloween” by St. Paul and the Broken Bone

IN-BETWEEN TRACK OF THE DAY:  (I don’t know what to call this so I keep changing the name)

“Humming to a Sea Snail” by Swear and Shake (from Maple Ridge.  Dig this band, and what a great song title.)

CLASSIC #E2TG SHUFFLE:

“We are One in the Spirit” by Annie Sellick (from Let’s Make a Christmas Memory.)

“Dear Pressure” by Miracles of Modern Science (from MEEMS. Indie/Chamber Pop band that formed at Princeton University in 2005.  Yes, my random shuffle function has a rather twisted sense of humor –  putting a spiritual/religious song alongside a song by a band called Miracles of Modern Science. Did I mention, I love my phone’s twisted random shuffle function?)

“The Wheel” by Katey Laurel  (from From Here. I’ve grown rather fund of the music by this Colorado based singer-songwriter)

“From Afar” (acoustic) and “Snaggletooth” (acoustic) by Vance Joy (both from his recent Noisetrade releaser “Riptide” and more.  Both songs are on his latest album God Loves You When You are Dancing. Pop Folk from Melbourne)

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle – Retreat Mix

Extended drive this a.m. means an extended Shuffle – so let’s get to it – jump to the shuffle after the break

“Love is God” by Majestico (See – this is what Rock and Roll sounds like. Pure adrenaline and fun. Nashville is home to some incredible bands who do not featured a banjo or a fiddle. Majestico are on the Jeffery Drag Records label)

“Come to My Party” by Black Joe Lewis (this version is off of the recently released Eastside Manor Sessions which is out now on Noisetrade. Black Joe Lewis are red hot right now, and they recently played a show here in Nashville with Jeffery Drag Records flagship artist Bad Cop)

“Nature Without Man” by Minutemen (from the classic 1984 album Double Nickels on the Dime. It’s been nearly 28 years since the world lost D. Boon, and yet this music sounds as fresh as ever.)

“Camellia” by Jesse Turits (another from the Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen compilation. Good stuff from this young Jersey singer/songwriter)

“Travelling Alone” by Jason Isbell (from one of this year’s best – Southeastern comes this heartbreaking song of yearning.)

“Never Too Far” by Moovalya (the first of two rockers from the self-titled album from this band from Arizona)

“Last Day” by The Danbury Lie (another from ?. The Danbury Lie are playing with The Grimm Generation on October 25 at café nine in New Haven, Connecticut. Two of our favorites sharing a stage!)

“Somebody Like You” by Katey Laurel (the Denver singer/songwriter with a song from her From Here album – gorgeous music.)

“Letting Go” by New Victorians (from II. Cinematic indie music)

“To the Throne” by Moovalya (The single from the album)

“Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis” by Neko Case (a stunning cover of the Tom Waits song.)

“Retreat” by Minutemen (another by the post-punk legends)

“After Eliot” by Johnny Flynn (from Country Mile. Johnny Flynn just writes and sings some amazingly awesome melodies)

“Pillow Talk” by Wild Child (the title track from the album by Austin Based Wild Child)

“Agua Dulce Tears” by Susan James (from Driving Toward the Sun. This is one of our favorite albums of the year, and it’s no wonder with incredible songs like this one.)

So we made it through our holiday shortened workweek, and it’s practically the weekend.  Let’s celebrate with a virtual explosion of music … after the JUMP

Here is our playlist which stretches from yesterday afternoon’s ride home until this morning’s drive to work.

“Make Up With Me” by Let’s Active

“Blue Moon” by Big Star

“Someday Sometime” by Scott Miller and Rayna Gellert (FYI – this is the Scott Miller from Knoxville from the band The V-Roys, and not the late Scott Miller of Game Theory and Loud Family) (FYI #2 – This is a great song!)

“Kings and Thrones” by Outer Minds (Chicago-based Baroque Bubblegum Psych)

“Outside the Rain” by Stevie Nicks (from Bella Donna)

“Breakfast” by Humming House

“Muskegon Harbor” by Taco Land (another from Pancakes and Pizza – a beautiful instrumental – coincidentally, the second song in a row with a Michigan connection)

“Lost My Way (live)” by Miss Shevaughn and Yuma Wray (I’m hoping to meet Miss Shevaughn and Yuma Wray in a couple of weeks)

“Eire” by The Shakers (The Shakers were an amazing southern gothic, alt-folk band that was formed by Oscar Rice and Robert Logue from Royal Court of China who were joined by the amazing Rebecca Stout to create a highly unique and original style.  This particular song comes from a great compilation of 1980s era Nashville Rock music – called Return to Elliston Square – 1979 to 1989)

“General Dome” by Buke and Gase

“Birmingham” by McNary (a second track from this Nashville singer/songwriter’s 2013 album, While We Are Waking)

“Zombie Girl” by Shake Jack (the title track to the EP by the Buenos Aires Surf, Rockabilly band)

“Together” by The Box Tops

“The Stars That Left” by Telepathic Teddy Bear
