So, I find myself short on time, so I have to speed through this. I hope you find time to dig deeper.  I could not find the exact track for all the songs for the Video Playlist, so you my have to do some internet searches.  Some great stuff, and well worth the effort.

“Racing to the Ruins” by Syd Straw

I have enjoyed so much revisiting Syd Straw’s classic album Surprise. Truly one of the best albums of the late 80s.

“Reprise” by The End Men

What a reprise! From the 2013 E2TG Band of the Year’s latest album, Terms and Conditions. The End Men are currently tearing up Europe!

“Takin’ a Ride” by The Replacements

The opening track from the first studio album by the one and only Replacements!

“Send Me on My Way” by Rusted Root

Some people say, I don’t have enough 90s music on Ear to the Ground.  Actually, to my knowledge no one has ever said that, but they may have thought it… but I can’t prove it.  In any event, here is a song released as a single in 1995.  A rough version appeared on Rusted Root’s debut album, Cruel Sun.  The song was rerecorded and included on their second album (and major label debut), When I Woke.  Undeniably infectious.

“India” by Roxy Music

A lush instrumental from the classic 1982 album, Avalon.

“Magnetic” by Michael Sackler-Berner

A song from the Shimmer and Shine EP by the fast rising New York singer-songwriter.

“One Too Many” by Tiffany Huggins-Grant

From the forthcoming album, Jonquil Child, by Nashville-based singer-songwriter Tiffany Huggins-Grant, this song was written by Pamela Jackson (one of only two songs on the album written by others). The album was produced by E2TG favorite Mark Robinson who also produced David Olney’s 2014, When the Deal Goes Down. Really digging this album so far. 

“Snow is Falling” by Cletus Kennelly and Lori Kelley

Another track from the long-time D.C. area duo.  Lori Kelley is now a Nashville resident, and I got to hear her perform Sunday night.

“Just Like You” by Gill Landry

A fantastic track (and first single) from the recent self-titled solo effort by the Old Crow Medicine Show guitarist.

“On Your Knees” by fIREHOSE

From Ragin’ Full On…  one of my favorite fIREHOSE songs.

“The Road Ahead” by Boy Named Banjo

Another great song from the album Long Story Short by the young Nashville band who will be playing Bonnaroo in about a month.

“When the World’s Against Me” by Andrew Adkins and The Colored Parade

I also saw Andrew Adkins perform live Sunday night.  Here he is with his band, The Colored Parade with a song released on KidzlikeDanny 4 a compilation from an organization that raises money for various autism causes.  A great song to end today’s shuffle.

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle – Still Covers the Sun Mix

We’ve reached the midpoint of the week…. let’s jump right into the shuffle….

“Feeling Called Love” by Wire

The second to last song from Pink Flag – the groundbreaking debut album by the influential English post-punk band. 

“The Distance Between Us” by Marshall Crenshaw

From Downtown… I always thought it was “The Distance Between” and it is listed that way in some sources, but this was how it imported into iTunes and how it is listed on Amazon.  I also saw it listed as “The Distance Between Me and You”… whatever it is called, it is a great song from one of America’s best songwriters.

“Walkin’ Boss” by Sam Amidon

This is from Sam Amidon’s 2014 album Lily-O.  I got it off of a Noisetrade sampler for Big Ears Festival which being held in Knoxville this weekend.  Sounds like a pretty diverse and interesting festival. Sam Amidon is married to Beth Orton in case you need to know that.

“Tahquitz” by Whale Fall

The term whale fall refers to the carcass of a cetacean which has fallen to the Bathyal or Abyssal zone on the ocean floor and then become a complex ecosystem. The name highlights (and these are my words) the complex and yet organic nature of the instrumental post-rock music made by this L.A. band.  This track comes from the band’s second album called The Madrean which is an eight chapter instrumental story of the arid Madrean region of the American west.

“Good, Good Man” by Carl Anderson

Carl Anderson is a Nashville-based Americana singer-songwriter who is originally from Charlottesville, VA.  His new album Risk of Loss is due out April 7.  He just put a Spring Sampler out on Noisetrade which is where I grabbed this track which is from his 2013 album Wolftown. He has a CD release show at The Basement on April 6 along with Mary Bragg who will also be releasing a new album April 7.

“Don’t Wanna Die Anymore” by Ivan and Alyosha

From their 2013 album All The Times We Had, this may be the first song that turned me on to Ivan and Alyosha.  If not, it is certainly one of my favorites.

“Smoke (La Vie En Fumer)” by The Tubes

I’m going to admit right out of the gate that just about everything I know about The Tubes is from being a teenager and being fascinated by their music video for the song, “She’s a Beauty”.   That being said, this song which was included on the Feel Bad for You short songs mixtape is pretty darn cool.  The song was the lead track on the 1977 album, Now.

“Blanket of Sorrow” by Jason and the Scorchers

From Lost and Found – more proof that Jason and the Scorchers are one of the great American rock bands.

“Desperate Times” (Work Tape) by Will Hoge

Will Hoge is a Nashville singer-songwriter.  Like Carl Anderson he is scheduled to release a new album on April 7, and he put out a Noisetrade sampler in advance of that release.  The album will be called Small Town Dreams, and the finished product of this song will be on it. 

“The Light” by Boy Named Banjo

Another uplifting track from Long Story Short.  I liked this song a lot.

Closing things out with the instrumental title track from the debut album by Marietta, Georgia’s Guadalcanal Diary whose name inspired a 1943 book and film… or maybe I have that backwards.  Guadalcanal Diary shows were always a good excuse for a drive to Nashville when I was in college.

Monday Morning Music Shuffle – Just Another Story Mix

#CXCW15 wrapped up this weekend….  Day 6, 7, 8 featured tons of great music… I feel like I am certain to leave some out, so please consider this a partial recap…  visit couchbycouchwest.com to experience or re-experience the whole thing. Anyway, some of the highlights of the last three days included: Nikki Sue and the Bad News, Young America, Modern Day Poets (which includes members of the now defunct band Cupla), Joe Nolan, Darrin Bradbury, Two Cow Garage with Todd Farrell, and a second video of Miss Shevaughn and Yuma Wray doing a Superchunk cover.

Way more great music than I could keep up with, but the good news I can go back and try to see what I missed, and so can you…  apologies to any FOE2TG (friends of ear 2 the ground) that I missed in my recaps…

“The Card Cheat” by The Clash

Yet another classic track from the amazingly legendary London Calling album.

“Oblivious” by Aztec Camera

One of my all time favorite songs, from the High Land, Hard Rain Album.  I love just about everything about this song.

“Hysterically Speaking” by The Colored Parade

The Colored Parade is a great Nashville band fronted by Andrew Adkins who was previously in the band Mellow Down Easy.  I got to see The Colored Parade live a couple of months back, and they were excellent.  This song is on the album And the Walls of the City Will Shake.  Check it out.

“Death or Glory” by The Clash

It’s a two Clash song kind of day…  this is another one of my faves off London Calling…

“Funky Avocado” by Michael Hedges

From the live album, Live on the Double Planet, this song was originally on the late guitar virtuoso Hedges’ 1981 debut album Breakfast in the Field. I was fortunate enough to get to see Hedges perform live, and even for a non-guitar nerd it was an amazing performance.  I’m sure the guitar nerds were going completely bonkers.

“Running Days” by Bonson Berner

L.A. band Bonson Berner just released their latest album called Reflection on March 10 on the Forty Below record label.  This song comes from their 2013 album Passport.

“Strange” by Boy Named Banjo

Another great song from the Nashville based band from their 2014 album Long Story Short.  Boy Named Banjo are competing to be on the bill at Bonnaro this year, so if you like what you’ve heard – check their Facebook Page to see what you need to do to help them out.

“Circus Stunt” by Burning Bridges

As I mentioned before, Burning Bridges was the project of Rob from The Danbury Lie in the days before The Danbury Lie existed.  This song (more so than the last Burning Bridges track I featured) seems like a missing link toward the development of The Danbury Lie sound we have come to know and love.

“No Good” by Banditos

Banditos are from Birmingham, Alabama.  From looking at their Facebook page, I see that I am late to this party (a diverse bunch of some of my coolest music friends “Like” their page already). This song will be on their self-titled debut album on Bloodshot Records which is not scheduled for release until May.  If this song can be used as an indication, well, then I may just have to add that album to my “Highly anticipated” list.
