Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle – Mt. Airy Groove Mix

Let’s get to it… 

Well, Nashville got a brief respite from the heat, and even a minor (but we’ll take it) shower.  It actually felt pleasant outside yesterday afternoon.  This morning, the humidity was up.

Our good friends, The Dead Exs are kicking off this Independence Day celebrations by releasing a free download of a brand new song called Relovolution. Amazingly, the band actually ups the ante on their dirty rockin’ blues sound.  Popa Tune’s has the details.






Let’s get to the shuffle:  


First up, we have Ane Brun from her 2008 album Changing of the Seasons with a beautiful song called, The Puzzle.

Next up we have the inimitable Joe Walsh with the title track from his 1991 album.  Ordinary Average Guy.

And finally, we have Own Side, which comes from Caitlin Rose’s 2011 album Own Side Now. Despite a mid-set power outage (during me she lead the crowd in an  a cappella version of You Are My Sunshine), Caitlin Rose was one of our favorite performers at this year’s Record Store Day extravaganza at Grimey’s in Nashville.

Couch By Couch West – A Wrap Up

This is just my two cents on the matter before we move on.
First of all great performances were legion with big name guests and with bands we’ve featured here at Ear to the Ground making an excellent showing.
The End Men kicked off the who show with Run Away and were named Most Rocking by the CXCW staff. Take a look and I’m sure you will agree with the decision: 

The Dead Exs turned in a rollicking number that got them named as Honorable Mention of Most Rocking… Here is All Over You going into Nolita Stomp:

Those Mockingbirds did their song The Bloodiest Gums from a Men’s Room in New Jersey.  Adam Bird sat on the floor of a men’s room, in New Jersey and just got runner-up for Sketchiest Locale. Head to CXCW to see the video that won.
 
David Pattillo of The Dead Exs was having so much fun at Couch by Couch West, he came back and did a solo number called Let the Natives Loose  which will be on The Dead Exs’ second album!
The incomparable Jonny Corndawg was a shoe-in for the Best Locale.  Check out this video:
Nikki Sue and the Bad News did a fun version of Bridge by the River.
Will Kimbrough didn’t let a little thing like the Atlantic Ocean stop him from sending in a performance of a new song called Home Economics :
Don Ryan is so hip he not only skips South by Southwest , but arrives too late for Couch by Couch West, but he still put up a couple of stellar clips.  The Official unentered entry of The Viral Thought from Tangle Town was followed up yesterday by an “outtake” – a new song called Desiree:

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle – Lazy Bastard Mix

Off we go getting good and ground up in the week…. and we added 17 songs (some new, some old – all new to our playlist) – and it’s a fine collection of music…

In case you haven’t heard the Legendary Leonard Cohen has a brand new album called Old Ideas by all accounts it is an amazing piece of work.  We have the lead track from the album today, Going Home would sound good along side any of Mr. Cohen’s classic tracks.

Whenever I load in a new song that blows me away, and  I cannot remember where I obtained it, a good bet is our friend Popa’s Tunes.  Case in point, today’s song from Black Jake and the Carnies.  It’s from their album Sundry Mayhem and it’s an amazing rave-up/hoe-down at once dark and fun. I grabbed a download from the Popakazooza 2012 compilation.

Next, we have a live track from reigning Band of the Week, The Gypsy West.  The song Time was recorded live at the Electric Cathedral. And, this gives up a chance to post a more recent video than the ones we posted with the BOTW post. Thanks to the band for the heads up to these videos.  We’ll have more later, I am sure. Here is a January 2012 performance by the band of today’s song, Time recorded at the Bowery Electric.

Finally, we have  another live performance.  This one is by the Civil Wars doing a track from the hit Barton Hollow album, My Father’s Father was recorded live at Eddie’s Attic and was only their second performance together ever.

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle – Undead Phone Mix

Yes, here we are back with an honest to goodness, real live music shuffle after the incident which will from here on out be known as the Elevator-Eats-Phone incident….

A windy morning – foretells a not unexpected change in the weather. Also a bit of good news to begin my day – not to mention a killer music shuffle to get us back on track…

The Amboys – Ashley Meets the Wolf comes to us via the always fabulous Popa’s Tunes Popakazooza 2012 compilation.  According to the band’s website they aren’t a band, but a movement.  The song comes from the Led Into The Woods collection which you can download now for under $7 (just click the album cover):

And once again, I am blown away by the amazingly, diverse and wonderful sounds coming out of the Garden State.

Talk about having my initial response confirmed in spades…  Build it Up is the title track from the the fabulous EP from The End Men (recent Band of the Week).  I’ve already done by share of raving about the sludgy, propulsive sound of this band.  Go thee to the Amazon and get the EP for under $5 – click on the album cover below:
  

Our current Band of the Week, Makar are up next with a track from their new album. The album is called Funeral Genius, the song is America Where Are You. Finally – some heavy music from a band called the Heavy Eyes.  Iron Giants comes from the bands self-titled album which was released back in October.  This one came our way via the forthcoming The Beyond Beyond is Beyond Psychedelic compilation (due out January 24th) by the folks at Bang Bang Boogaloo.
