ICYMI – Go check out the new Video from the Cosmonauts – our post about it is here:

Also, with just days to go, you can still vote for the Ear to the Ground Band of the Month.  Go HERE to vote. Remember you can vote as often as you want.  Right now, And the Giraffe are leading, but it is still wide open.  So vote now!

To the shuffle:

First up, we have a band we featured back in May when they released their stunning album The Ghost of John Henry. They are back with a new song called Just to Win the Fight  which features Vance Kotrla on 12 and 6 String Guitar, Banjo, Bass and Vocals.  Check it out!

Next up, we have Nashville based Americana recording artist, Derek Hoke, with a song from his most recent record, Waiting All NightLonely Street is the kind of Country song that breaks and warms your heart at the same time.  I can’t speak for anyone else, but I know I’ve walked that Lonely Street many a time.

Next we have Land of a Thousand Words which was the second single of Scissor Sisters’ second album Ta-Dah.  The song is a twangy ballad reminiscent of early Elton John (who collaborated on the album if not this song).

We close out this shuffle with the song, Hollowpoint Blues  from the album Shovels and Rope by Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent who record under the Shovels and Rope name. They hail from South Carolina and blue a ragged style of honky tonk music that is all their own.

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle – Daredevil Guy Mix

Good morning! Remember, keep voting in our current Band of the Month Poll. Voting is going strong.  In the past twenty-four hours, Loners Society has increased their lead, but as we have seen in the past, it can all change in no time flat.
Be sure to come back here around 5:00pm Central Time (6:00 Eastern) (Tuesday August 21, 2012) – The rest of you are on your own – as we will present an interview with Cosmonauts and a chance to preview their brand new song, Cold Harbor.

Let’s get into the music shuffle for the day:

First up, we have a New York band who came to our attention via The Dead Exs.  The Great American Novel will be playing a show with The Dead Exs and others next Monday at the Mercury Lounge.  If you’re in that area, be sure to check it out.

The Great American Novel are a fun band, and I’m looking forward to hearing more from them.  Today, we have American Weekend  (which seems a bit like a taunt since it only Tuesday) from their recent release, Kissing.

(Couldn’t find a video for American Weekend, so here is another track from Kissing)
Keeping it in New York area, we have a band called The Dukes of Brooklyn with a track called White Lightnin’ which you can check out here.  It’s some awesome Blues-based stuff which I really dig.

Next, we have a second track from Scissor Sisters Ta-Dah album – I Can’t Decide.  We recently picked up this CD at our local Goodwill, and it’s a great record.  Danceable music that doesn’t suck.  By the way, not that we’re keeping track, but Scissor Sisters are a NY-based band as well.

And finally, we leave off from New York and drive south to Charleston, SC for a fantastic singer-songwriter named Joal Rush.  Another Lover Song was released in 2010 on his Wares album.

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle – Black House Mix

Good Morning American how are you? Here we are at the mid-point of the month of August.  Very soon now, I will be posting the Band of the Month Poll. Stay tuned for that one.  We have ten great Featured Artists this month, and I hope we can have some spirited competition.
We continue to spin some of the newer tracks added to our Playlist in August.  This are brand new songs, newish songs and older songs. Today, we have a plethora of goodies for your listening enjoyment.  Let us get to the Shuffle now!

We begin today with part of the split 7″ we’ve mention a time or two before.  Nashville bands Turbo Fruits and Bad Cop teamed up with Jeffery Drag Records also from Nashville to release a split 7″ single which is tons of fun.  Bad Cop contributed the song Wet Lips while Turbo Fruits have contributed their ode to the burgeoning local scene here which is called Love Tennessee. The Turbo Fruits track is in the shuffle today.

Here is a Turbo Fruits powered Crawfish Boil – Nashville style

Athens Georgia band Five-Eight are up next with an awesome cover of Neil Young’s classic, The Needle and the Damage Done which the band released on their 1993 album The Angriest Man.

Here’s Five-Eight doing Sitting Still with a couple of blokes who might know that song pretty well.
And here is Neil Young’s version this time from the Johnny Cash Show.

Next we have June Featured Artist, Tipi Valley with a track from his latest EP, Into the Woods which you can head over to Bandcamp to pick up.

And finally, we have an ironically danceable track from the 2006 album Ta-Dah by New York band Scissor Sisters in collaboration with Sir Elton John.  I Don’t Feel Like Dancing brought me into my office and closed out the morning shuffle.
