“Rat” by Tigerman WOAH!

Tigerman WOAH! are a Massachusetts/Georgia band. They describe their music as: “Appalachian mountain folk/bluegrass influenced punk rock with the occasional hip-hop freak-out.”  I can’t say that I disagree and yes it is as good as it sounds. This song is on the album Up South Vol. II & I.

“Gluten Farm” by Circus Propaganda

Circus Propaganda are from Bethany, Connecticut. The band includes Evan and Hayden of The Foresters. This song is on the album Botany. Look for a new album Parabola soon maybe…

“In My Own Time” by The Three O’clock

What about a bit of Paisley Underground, and a cover of a 1967 song from the Bee Gees.  This cover was on the 1983 album Sixteen Tambourines.  The original song was only 16 years old when this cover was recorded, and now the cover is over 30 years old, and it sounds fantastic.

“All Around the World Or The Myth of Fingerprints” by Paul Simon

From Simon’s album, Graceland and featuring the East L.A. band Los Lobos.  “I’ve seen them all and man they’re all the same…”

“Our Love” by The Bros Landreth

The Winnipeg band with a song from their latest album, Let it Lie.

“I Woke Up” by Mouth Reader

The Murfreesboro band with a song from their album, Hands.  The album is available packaged as a pop-up book that was released on Record Store Day. 

“Misery Loves Company” by Eight O’ Five Jive

Another swinging song from the album, Too Many Men, but Nashville’s jumpingest, jiviest combo. 

“Down the Dip” by Aztec Camera

The final song on the original release of Aztec Camera’s 1983 album High Land, Hard Rain.  Our second 1983 song in the shuffle today. I was 17 in 1983, it was a pretty good year.

“Lady in the Radiator” by Black Iron Prison

Black Iron Prison are a long running Metal band from Up-State (up state? Upstate? up-state?) New York.  The current line-up includes Elijah Hargrave who was a member of the 2013 E2TG Band of the Year Skeletons in the Piano.  So that makes this band family… the black iron sheep of the family?

“Know Your Animals” by Atticus Floyd

Atticus Floyd is from Connecticut.  They are part of Circus Propaganda who we heard earlier in the shuffle. Part of the amazing creative output from the youth of that northeastern state.  This song or a version of this song or a song with the same title is also on the Circus Propaganda album.  Anyway, it’s a cool song, and since I couldn’t find a video for Atticus Floyd – I posted one for a song from the Pink Floyd album Animals which share 2 out of 5 words with this song and band.  If you want to hear the Atticus Floyd song, I’m attaching a widget below.

Monday Morning Music Shuffle – Return of the Living Dead Mix



Well… after a week long bout with the flu, I can safely say that I am back from the grave and ready to party!




Hall of Fame update – 1. I at least have a template for the Hall of Fame page entries.  I was beginning to work more on the page when I fell ill.  – doesn’t “fell ill” sound so sophisticated?  Let me tell you – the reality was pretty awful. 2. I came up with a list of notable omissions from my initial class of twenty – some of these were due to being first mentioned in the pre-blogger days, some due to alternate spellings affecting the tag count.  In any event, I will be adding those names soon.

p.s. I have a literal ton of songs waiting to be added to the active playlist.*

*confession: I have no clue how much a song weighs so I can’t truly say that I literally have a ton of songs to add… but it’s a bunch.

“Suffragette City” by David Bowie (from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.  One of my favorites.)

“State of the Art (A.E.I.O.U.)” by Jim James (from his February 2013 solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God.  Jim James of My Morning Jacket is truly one of the most amazing artists of our time.)

“Slow and Low” by Beastie Boys (from Licensed to Ill.  I think this is the last song for us to feature from this landmark album. “That is the tempo”)

“Ella Guru” by XTC (from Fast ‘n’ Bulbous: a Tribute to Captain Beefheart.  Andy Partridge and company covering Captain Beefheart! What could possibly go wrong?  Answer: Not a damned thing!)

“Pale Blue Eyes” by The Velvet Underground (from The Velvet Underground.  You may recall that I began surveying this classic album before Lou Reed passed away.  Pale Blue Eyes is truly one of the most beautiful songs, and it is one of my favorites among a stellar list of amazing VU songs.)

“Goddamn Lonely Love” by Joseph Mooradian (via Soundcloud.  A cover of a Drive by Truckers song which ex-DBT Jason Isbell released on his Live from Alabama album. I really dig this version by the talented Mr. Mooradian.)



“Officer” by Saint Rich (from Beyond the Drone. A newish band formed by Delicate Steve main guy Steve Marion who plays drums here joined by Delicate Steve touring guitarist Christian Peslak.  This was one of the free tracks from Amazon at some point, and I honestly didn’t know anything about the band until this morning.  I really dig this song though.)

Thursday Morning Music Shuffle – Elephants, Teddy Bears, Monkeys and Coyotes – Oh My! Mix

We have a damn fine shuffle to close out the week…. the first five songs even start a bit of theme (purely thanks to the shuffle function).  Due to circumstances (yada yada), this will be the final shuffle of the week.  So it’s a nice way to go out.

“Spiderhead” by Cage the Elephant (from the new album, Melophobia. The video included in the playlist below, is a performance of the album’s first single on Letterman – last week. Mr. Letterman’s reaction after the song, is everything you need to know about why Cage the Elephant are a great Rock and Roll band.  They are from just up the road a bit – Bowling Green, Kentucky)

“How Long” by Elephant Stone (from their 2009 album The Seven Seas and included a recent Noisetrade sampler.  This band is new to me, and I am digging it so far…)

“Every Time the Son Leaves” by Telepathic Teddy Bear (from Reactions. I’ve been listening to this album for a couple of months now. I’m digging the groovy vibe and subtle humor in some of the songs.  This one has a trippy, mellow vibe that I kind of dig)

“Brass Monkey” by Beastie Boys (from Licensed to Ill. What can I say? Booooy!”

“Coyote” by Miss Shevaughn and Yuma Wray (a non-album live cut from the band’s Live at DC9 release.  Man oh man, I love this song.  Maybe if I beg nicely, they will do this one on Tuesday… Maybe?)

“Pictures” by Logan X (from the Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen compilation. This is a remarkable song.  I wish I could have found a video for it, but go look at the Mama Coco’s bandcamp page and give it a listen – hell download the whole compilation.  Logan X is an instrumentalist. The vocals on this song are by Molly Connelly.  The ubiquitous Oliver Ignatius contributes as he does on almost if not all of the Mama Coco’s compilation songs. By the way, Mama Coco is apparently a cockatoo, so technically this song continues the theme of the first five songs… )

“Comfort Consumption” by False-Heads (from Tunnel Vision.  Another cool song by these kids from England who looked us up and gave us the chance to hear their very awesome album)

“Storm in my House” by Minutemen (from Double Nickels on the Dime. Double Nickels is one of my all-time favorite albums and in my opinion one of the best albums ever.)

“Save Charlie” by Rubblebucket (from the EP Save Charlie. This came from a Paste/Noisetrade compilation. My first exposure to this Brooklyn band, and I am kind of digging it.)

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle – Melon Farmer Mix

Let’s jump back into the Shuffles with an extended mix of music.

As usual, time is short – so no dilly-dallying.  Which is a shame, really, because I am so good at dilly-dallying….

“Just Poppin’ Out To Fight a War” by Cropdusters (we grabbed this off the September edition  of the Feel Bad for You monthly mixtape.  Don’t know much about this band – except they were British and were under-appreciated in their day.)

“Separations” by Diarrhea Planet (The red hot Nashville band with the attention grabbing name.  My advice – get past the name and dig the music. – On Infinity Cat Records)

“Love Has No Pride” by Linda Ronstadt (‘Cause seriously, seriously – what other blog will transition naturally and unironically from Diarrhea Planet to Linda Ronstadt?  No offense to other music blogs, but when it comes to awkward and bizarre transitions – there aren’t many who can (or who want to) touch E2TG)

“Everyone Knows” by Ghost Pal (Another from the Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen Section 4 compilation.  Ghost Pal are from Brooklyn and they rock in the funkiest, coolest way possible)

“Mrs. Wurley” by Humming House (from a Noisetrade live album. Nashville neo-traditionalists offer up more of what they do better than most)

“I Shall Be Released” by The Box Tops (Alex Chilton and company cover Dylan. Need I say more?)

“Every Mile” by The Parson Red Heads (A Portland band from a Paste Magazine sampler)]

“Dropped the Pop” by Killing Kuddles (one of my favorites from his Odd Man Out EP. Come to think of it, I think I’ve said this about almost every song on the record. And I meant it, too!)

“Repo Man” by Those Darlins (To help celebrate the release of the landmark Blur the Lines album by the Nashville favorites – how ’bout we check out their cover of the Iggy Pop song from the Soundtrack to the 1984 Alex Cox film. Bonus points if you understand how the subtitle of this post and the movie are related)

“Real Estate” by Wild Child (the more I hear from this Austin band, the more I like)

“Every Time I See a Plane” by Casey Black (really dig this song by the Nashville singer/songwriter)

“Rhymin’ and Stealin'” by Beastie Boys (’cause. Just ’cause.)

“Requiem for the Disconsolate” by James Crawford (’cause sometimes when the heavy metal kid from high school grows up and makes a record… I have a feeling this is going to be one of my favorite albums of the autumn.  Official release is just a few weeks away)
