Monday Morning Music Shuffle – Backup Plan Mix

I don’t have anything particularly clever or important to say today.  Just that we have an awesome mix of music that continues a Blues theme from Friday and which features not one, not two, but three examples of why Nashville is Music City and not Country Music City.

Get to the mix after the jump:

“Just Keep on Rockin’” by Roomful of Blues from Alligator Records: 21st Century Blues and Roots/45 Live (Original version on Standing Room Only)

The long-running Rhode Island Blues/Swing band Roomful of Blues with a live version of a song which was originally on their 2005 album.

“Find the Love” by Deena from Rock River

Another great track from Rock River – the newest album by New Jersey Indie legend Deena Shoshkes from The Cucumbers.  Delightfully wistful and delightfully free from empty sentiment.

“Out to Sea” by The Delta Saints from Death Letter Jubilee
The first of three Nashville bands which round out this Monday Shuffle.  The Delta Saints bring a little taste of the Mississippi Delta to what they call Swagger Rock.

“Backup Plan” by Mark Robinson from Quit Your Job – Play Guitar

A song from Music City Blues Guitarist extraordinaire and a good friend of this blog, Mark Robinson from his 2010 album.

“Tennessee” by Great Peacock from Single
We close out this shuffle with one of my favorite songs of the last year or so.  They were the 2013 CXCW Best Dressed award winners – the year they covered The National and then teamed up with Wess Floyd to do an absolutely kick ass version of the Alabama Shakes’ “Hold On”.  This is a song that has been getting quite a bit of attention locally and hopefully elsewhere as well.

So, the week gets off to a roaring start… come back all week….

Couch by Couchwest enters Day 4 and the great music keeps coming. Our friends Tim Lee 3, Imperial Rooster and Sci Romance have made appearances with videos forthcoming from The Dead Exs, Nikki Sue and The End Men among others.  Veteran performers like Phil Norman, Eric Brace and Peter Cooper and Jonny Fritz (formerly Corndawg) have posted CXCW videos.  Plus we’ve heard some amazing new music (or at least new to us) like The Wolverine, One Hand Dan, Hallelujah the Hills and so many more.  You really have to go check it out for your self.

Running Late today – so let’s get to the shuffle: (After the Jump)

  • “In Time” by The Danbury Lie from ? (2013)

“In Time” is the final song on the brand new release from The Danbury Lie who are part of the Connecticut faction of the Ear to the Ground music syndicate… (humor my delusions of grandeur, please.) With elements of progressive, metal, folk and more – The Danbury Lie create big heavy music that manages to avoid the excesses other bands who make that type of music.  We have a video for an older song called “Morbid Becoming” in the playlist.

  • “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac from Rumours (1977)

More Fleetwood Mac for a mid-week in March.  Enjoy. The youtube playlist has a live version of this classic.

  • “Malted Milk” by Robert Johnson from Martin Scorsesee Presents The Blues: Robert Johnson (2003)

I’ll leave it to Robert Johnson to speak for himself.  Video of Malted Milk below.

  • “Swimming” by Brendan Benson from Readymade Records Sampler 2013 (2013)

A fairly new song from the singer songwriter and Raconteurs member. We grabbed this off the Readymade Records sampler we posted yesterday.  The video is for a different Brendan Benson song.

Here is the Black and White World Mix Playlist. By the way thanks to Robert from The Danbury Lie for suggesting the playlist idea to us.
