It’s Friday and it’s also the last day of May!

Let’s put this month to rest with some awesome tunes…

Pre-Shuffle:

“Moorie” by Great Divide
“Bridge by the River” by Nikki Sue and the Bad News
“Wish I Could Stand or Have” and “Chardonnay” by Game Theory
“Bloodhound” by Jeanette Lynne
“Tear You Up” and “Come In” by Decades
“Drenched” by Wanting
“Tickin’ Bomb” by Shovels and Rope

Shuffle – after le jump… la jump????  The Jump!

  •  “Tables (Acoustic)” by Seth Philpott from a 2013 Noisetrade Sampler original version from Bad Hearts (2013)

Grabbed a sampler from Noisetrade and I’ve become a pretty big fan of this Nashville Singer/Songwriter.  Bad Hearts came out earlier this month.

  • “Don’t Force the Funk” by Wheelchair Sports Camp from Where We All Live (2012)

Kalyn the MC/Producer of Wheelchair Sports camp is 26 years old, 3 foot 6 inches tall and weighs 53 pounds. She has osteogenesis imperfecta a brittle bone condition. She also delivers some kick-ass lyrical explosions and with the rest of the band deliver some vicious beats.

  • “Disaster” by Kopecky Family Band from The Disaster(2010)

Nashville’s Kopecky Family Band have been making music together since 2007.  Their latest album (linked above) Kids Raising Kids is getting some serious National attention, but here in Nashville, we’ve been paying attention for a while now.  I absolutely love this sort of Title track from the band’s 2010 album.

Friday Morning Music Shuffle – Illustrious Illusions Mix

!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”);https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js <!– google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5465441380757075"; /* E2TG #2 */ google_ad_slot = "6306625404"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; //

‘Tis a rainy Friday in Nashville, Tennessee.  Fortunately, the rain let up for my daily walk up the hill to higher ground. Even more fortunate, I got to listen to some killer tunes, and as always, I want to share them with you.

Pre-shuffle:

“Please” by The Vespers (awesome Nashville band who will be playing May 25th at the Eastside Hootenanny.  Those Darlins will also be on the bill that day because this is Nashville and that’s just how we roll)

“Hello It’s Me” by Todd Rundgren (The classic song from 1972)

” Singing Sunrise” by JENNY (who have a new album, Love and Politics out now)

“Hail Hail” by Shovels and Rope (the awesome South Carolina band from a Noisetrade tour sampler for their summer jaunt with the equally awesome Dawes – who we will hear from later in the mix)

“Rewind” by Kopecky Family Band (more good stuff from the Nashville band who were recently featured in the NY Times)

SHUFFLE – after the JUMP

  •  “Off With My Head” by Seth Philpott from Bad Hearts (2013)

A week or so ago, I played the Acoustic version of this song which was on a Noisetrade Sampler.  This time, we have the full album version from the Bad Hearts EP which was released earlier this month.  I’m really digging this Nashville American artist, and I just now noticed that the Bad Hearts EP contains a duet with the always awesome Angel Snow (who has been featured on E2TG a number of times).

  • “From a Window Seat” (Live) by Dawes from Summer Tour Sampler (2013) (original verison is on Stories Don’t End (2013))

We promised you Dawes, and we have Dawes.  This California band is justifiably one of  the hottest bands around these days.  Noisetrade offers up a Live version of the first single from their current album – along with some more great music from Dawes and Shovels and Rope)

  • “Behave” by Year of October from Stories (2012)

Year of October are a Nashville based band.  They recently connected with me on Twitter, and now I’m regretting not catching up with them sooner. They offer up a unique mix of rock, blues and folk.  I love  the vocals and “classic” sounding music. They are gearing up for their first full length tour.  I have a feeling I’ll be playing much more from this band.

  • “Crowded Highway” by Harmondale from Spirit of 73 (2011)

Okay, call it a theme.  Another great Nashville based  artist making contemporary timeless music, and again I am late to the game as this song is from a 2011 album.  Really great way to wrap up the morning shuffle.

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle – rearviewmirrormix

!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”);https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js <!– google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5465441380757075"; /* E2TG #2 */ google_ad_slot = "6306625404"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; //

Wow! May is sure flying by, and I still have some wrap-up to do for April – ah well, when I can, when I can…   I have a nifty selection of songs today, so let’s get to it.
Pre-Shuffle Shuffle:
1. “If You Would Love Me, Too” by Prattle On, Rick (A Nashville artist who I “discovered” via Twitter. Really digging this guy and wondering why it’s taken me so long to catch up with him.  The video in our Playlist is for another song of his – as are several of the songs today).
2. “I Am” by Sealight (Our friends from across the pond are back with a new song – a follow up to their Dead Letters EP which I reviewed some time back in my very first Ear to the Ground record review!  I Am can be found on a Sampler put out by the band’s French Label, Commission 45.

3.”Stealing Romance” by Milk Carton Kids

4.”Without You” by Natalie Maines

5.  “Failing Love (acoustic)” by Seth Philpott

The Milk Carton Kids and Seth Philpott tracks were grabbed from Noisetrade.  There is always fresh new music up for grabs at Noisetrade.com, and as always tip if you can, spread the word and support the artists however you are able.

The Natalie Maines’ track is the lead track from her long-anticipated and brand new album Mother.

SHUFFLE is up – after the JUMP

  • “Fall Apart” by Jeanette Lynne from You’ve Got Me (2013)

I’ve had several songs from this album in our Pre-Shuffle over the last couple of weeks, and so far I’ve loved every thing I’ve heard. This one comes via fellow blogger, madman, genius and reigning Mayor of Couch by Couchwest – David “Popatunes” Horton.  Ms. Lynne, as I understand it, went to school with David’s sons which got me to thinking about all the amazingly talented musical artists who’ve passed tangentially through my life – children of friends, friends of my children etc. Which I suppose it all part of the philosophy of Ear to the Ground – keep listening and you will be amazed at what comes your way.

  • “Bad Year at UCLA” by Game Theory from Distortion of Glory

A truly great song from the legendary San Francisco band.

  • “Athens to Athens” (live) [Vienna] (acoustic) by Joe Bonamassa from An Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House (2013)

Look, I honestly can’t say that I’ve ever been a huge Joe Bonamassa fan. It’s not that I don’t like his music so much as I’ve never really listened to it. That being said, I love this song and I love everything else I’ve heard so far from this album. This sounds amazing – not a surprise given the historic setting and the reputation Mr. Bonamassa has as a musician.

  • “The Detach” by EndAnd from Mechanics and Energetics of Stilt-Running (2013)
http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/v=2/album=3959258905/size=venti/bgcol=FFFFFF/linkcol=4285BB/

You’ve seen several tracks from this new record featured of late. I’m rather enjoying this album – perhaps even more so than I did the band’s previous album The Adventures of Hi-Fi in Space which I also liked.

It occurred to me that several of the songs in the mix today are from 2013 releases, and that in just four months and a week, this year has produced some amazing music. And, there is much more to come, as we await new music from Nikki Sue and the Bad News among others.

Monday Morning Music Shuffle – Swoony Day Mix

 !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js”;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,”script”,”twitter-wjs”);https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js<!– google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5465441380757075"; /* E2TG #2 */ google_ad_slot = "6306625404"; google_ad_width = 728; google_ad_height = 90; //

I’m back after an extended and mostly rainy weekend.  Dreary, drizzly morning drive and walk, made more than tolerable by the superlative collection of fine tunes and tracks. By the way, my Current Month Playlist that I shuffle up for the Morning Shuffle had dropped to about 150 late last week, but over the weekend it has skyrocketed up above 200 again. We’ll begin chipping away, as we present some Pre-Shuffle and Shuffle Shuffle tunes for this, the 6th day of May.

Pre-Shuffle:

Jeanette Lynne’s 11 second “Intro” to her fabulous album You’ve Got Me serves has the intro into today’s Pre-shuffle.

Kyle Andrews  “Connecting the Dots”

Set in Stone doing “The Way I Felt” (a Twitter discovery from this weekend)

Game Theory “Toby Ornette”

Those Darlins “Glass to You”

Holy Grail “Ride the Void” – Why not.. some infectious Metal via Amazon’s Free Music from Rising Artists

Game Theory “Rolling with the Moody Girls”

The next song served as a transition into the Shuffle – and we included it after the JUMP

  •  “Off With My Head (acoustic) by Seth Philpott from Bad Hearts (2013 – Out Tomorrow)

This Nashville singer-songwriter bills himself as a Country Gentleman.  I just say he’s a killer singer/songwriter worth checking out.  His EP Bad Hearts drops tomorrow (May 7, 2013), but if you can’t wait that long, he has a Noisetrade sampler ready for your perusal right now!

  • “Catcher and the Rye” by Neighbours from Catcher and the Rye (Single) (2012)

Some more outstanding music available now on Noisetrade. This is the second song we’ve featured from Neighbour which is a project of singer/songwriter Kacie Williams another Nashville (by way of Amarillo, Texas) singer/songwriter.

The Big Shot Chronicles was produced by the great Mitch Easter. If you want to support the family of Scott Miller – here is the link.

  • “Bring Me Down (prod. Bitoy Beatz) by Christian Robins from KidGrownUp (2013)

Get this amazing Mixtape here. And when this kid is famous, tell them you heard about him first at Ear to the Ground who heard about him first through my hometown friend – Jeff.
